The key to effective mulching is finding the right balance – not too thick, but not too thin either. A properly applied layer will enrich the soil, but if it’s spread too thinly, it might not provide the full benefits, like weed control or protection from heat and erosion. Generally a 25 mm–102 mm (2–4 in) depth is recommended.

Melcourt Spruce Ornamental Bark Mulch is a premium conifer bark mulch ideal for enhancing garden borders and landscaped areas.

With a nominal particle size of 5 to 35mm, this dark brown mulch is easy to handle and offers a long-lasting service life of over two years. Its naturally acidic properties create a hostile environment for pests, contributing to plant health. Additionally, Spruce Ornamental has been fire-tested in accordance with BS 4790:1987, making it suitable for areas with potential fire risk, such as car parks and pedestrian walkways.

Endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), this 100% peat-free mulch is an environmentally responsible choice for both professional and domestic landscaping projects.
